Assisted Living

Need to put a loved one in an Assisted Living Home or a Convalescent Home?

“I’m hearing it over and over again: Mom needs to sell her house before she can afford to move in to an assisted living facility.”

The right Realtor can make the difference between quickly selling your home for top dollar and watching your property languish on the market for months.

Choosing a Realtor is one of the most critical decisions when it comes to settling an estate and this is an area that is best left to professionals.

I UNDERSTAND HOW DIFFICULT IT CAN BE

Selling a home is often one of the most emotionally difficult aspects of an estate transition, especially after the loss of a loved one. A home is associated with many cherished memories, and it symbolizes family, rest and security. When you’re downsizing or settling an estate, putting the house up for sale can be emotionally wrenching.

CHOOSING A REALTOR IS AN IMPORTANT DECISION.

The best Realtor to sell your home is not necessarily the one whose free notepads are stacking up on your front door, or the one who’s a close friend of your neighbor’s sister. The best real estate agents are those with the experience, knowledge and skill to successfully sell your home for top dollar.

“My mom can’t take care of herself anymore and I need to sell the house”

When a senior’s property is involved in a transaction, it is usually an adult child that makes the first contact with the real estate professional to request a CMA. Of course in many cases, the adult child is acting with the knowledge and consent of the elderly parent. In other situations this initial contact can signal the beginning of an entanglement in a difficult family situation. The first thing the real estate agent will want to do is confirm that your parent is aware of this conversation and is a willing and informed participant. If you feel your parent is no longer able to take part in making these decisions, you will need to be able to verify that you have power of attorney, guardianship, or a legal confirmation from the your parents attorney. An agent familiar with seniors will understand the value of building relationships with family members. Making you a part of the team will go a long way to communicate with your parents and helping them make difficult decision and take actions. Sometimes having a third party talk about options can smooth the way for a loving child with the difficult task of caring for a failing parent.
